Sustainable Caravan Tourism: Lecture in Hessian Rhön on Oct 8

A nationwide initiative is underway to promote sustainable caravan tourism in Germany's most scenic natural areas. This project aims to balance nature conservation with tourism growth, with a focus on regions like the Hessian Rhön.

The Hessian Rhön, both in the Biosphere Reserve and Naturpark areas, has seen significant shifts in motorhome tourism during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. To address these changes and plan for the future, a lecture is scheduled on October 8, 2025, from 6 to 7:30 PM. The event will explore opportunities and possibilities for a future-proof caravaning infrastructure in the region.

Thomas Nitsch, a seasoned site consultant and speaker for technology and infrastructure at the Caravaning Industry Association (CIVD), will lead the plenary session. With over 30 years of technical and tourism experience, Nitsch will share practical insights and suggestions for sustainable caravaning tourism and infrastructure development. The Hessian Rhön is one of ten model regions selected for this project, which is a collaboration between National Nature Landscapes (NNL) e.V., Association of German Nature Parks (VDN) e.V., and Caravaning Industry Association (CIVD) e.V.

The lecture, to be held at the Hessian Administrative Office of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön, is open to all interested parties. Registration can be done via email at [email protected] or by phone at 0661/6006-7802. For more details about the planned project, visit Nationale Naturlandschaften - Caravaning-Tourismus. This initiative seeks to create a harmonious balance between nature conservation and tourism, ensuring the long-term sustainability of caravan tourism in Germany's most beautiful natural areas.
