Surprise school bus inspections reveal licensing and paperwork violations in South Hesse

Police and transport regulators carried out surprise checks on school buses in South Hesse this week. The inspections took place at the Ernst Göbel School in Höchst and Erbach station on Tuesday, October 21. Ten vehicles and their drivers were examined for compliance with safety and licensing rules. Officers from the South Hesse Police Headquarters and the OREG transport authority led the operation. Seven of the ten buses passed without issues, showing no technical faults or paperwork problems.

A 39-year-old driver now faces investigation after operating without a valid Class D licence. Although he had completed both theory and practical driving tests, he lacked the mandatory permit for passenger transport. Two other buses were flagged for paperwork violations. One carried outdated documents—2024 timetables, fare schedules, and transport rules—rather than the current versions. Another had safety equipment that was improperly labelled, though the gear itself was in working order. No mechanical defects were found in any of the vehicles. The two drivers responsible for the paperwork and labelling issues received verbal warnings.

The checks confirmed that most buses met legal standards, but a few drivers failed to follow documentation and licensing rules. The 39-year-old without a Class D licence remains under investigation, while the others were cautioned for minor infractions. Authorities have not announced further action at this stage.
