Students from Sfax Visit
A group of students from Sfax, Marburg’s twin city, recently visited the German university town. The trip marked another chapter in a long-standing partnership that began over 50 years ago. During their stay, the young visitors explored local schools and cultural sites.
The exchange programme brought the Sfax students to Philippinum Grammar School, where they met with local pupils. Their visit also included a guided tour of Marburg, giving them a closer look at the historic town.
Professor Dr. Albrecht Fuess, chair of the Marburg-Sfax Friendship Association, travelled with the group. He acted as an interpreter during meetings and events. One highlight was a reception at Marburg Town Hall, where Mayor Nadine Bernshausen officially welcomed the guests. The connection between Marburg and Sfax dates back to 1971. Over the decades, exchanges like this one have helped strengthen ties between the two communities.
The visit allowed students from Sfax to experience Marburg’s education system and heritage first-hand. It also reinforced the ongoing friendship between the twin cities. Future exchanges are expected to build on this tradition of cultural and academic cooperation.
