Storm rips scaffolding from German transmission tower, forcing emergency closure

Parts of the scaffolding around the Hoherodskopf transmission tower broke free during a storm. The incident happened near Schotten–Breungesheim, but no one was hurt. Authorities have now closed off the surrounding area for safety checks.

High winds tore several formwork panels from their anchors on the tower’s scaffolding. The detached plates were part of a framework supporting the structure’s platform, used for applying shotcrete. No damage to nearby property or injuries were reported.

Fire crews and police quickly secured the site, blocking access to the parking lot below. A specialist team from Elektro- und Sicherheitstechnik Hess (ESTH), based in Schotten, will handle the repairs. Technicians are expected to arrive around midday to assess and fix the damaged sections.

The area remains cordoned off while repairs take place. ESTH will restore the scaffolding’s stability before access is restored. No further disruptions have been reported beyond the initial closure.
