From 2026, still up to 30 jobs at Spreewald cucumber company - Spreewaldkonserve Shifts to Seasonal Model, Securing Jobs for 30
Spreewaldkonserve, the Golßen-based pickle manufacturer, has announced a significant shift in its business model. Despite recent obstacles, the company will continue to employ up to 30 people starting next year, focusing solely on pickles during the harvest season.
The company, owned by the French food conglomerate Andros since 2021, will close its facility in Schöneiche and operate on a seasonal model. This change comes after the cucumber harvest season ended in October and the company previously planned to lay off around 200 permanent employees due to significant losses.
During the harvest months of July and August, as in previous years, the company will hire seasonal workers, primarily from Poland, to support its pickle production. This seasonal workforce will complement the up to 30 permanent employees who will continue to be employed year-round.
The Spreewald pickles brand, a protected designation within the European Union since 1999, will continue to be produced under the new seasonal model. While the company has faced challenges, the decision to maintain employment for up to 30 people and continue producing the iconic pickles is a positive step forward.
