Sparkasse phases out S-ID-Check and S-Trust by 2026 for stronger security
Sparkasse is making changes to its online security systems. The bank will phase out the S-ID-Check app for credit card payments and shut down its S-Trust online storage service. Customers are being urged to switch to newer authentication methods before the end of 2026.
From mid-January 2026, users can no longer register new credit cards in the S-ID-Check app. The bank is replacing this system with 3D-Secure, which must be used alongside the S-pushTAN app. Existing users can still access the S-ID-Check app until the end of 2026, but all customers must complete the switch by then.
The 3D-Secure procedure can be activated directly through online banking. The exact steps depend on the user's current TAN method, though detailed instructions have not yet been provided.
In addition, Sparkasse will close its S-Trust online storage service, including its password manager, by the end of March 2026. This move comes ahead of a new EU rule in 2027 that will limit cash payments over âŹ3,000.
Sparkasse is encouraging customers to transition to 3D-Secure and S-pushTAN as soon as possible. The changes aim to improve security before the 2026 deadline. Users should prepare for the shutdown of older services and the upcoming EU cash payment restrictions.
