Soziale Stadt Project in Hirschsprung-Breitensee Concludes After 15 Years

The FEMA-funded Social Security project in Hirschsprung-Breitensee, Dreieich, has successfully concluded after over 15 years. This urban development initiative, funded by federal, state, and municipal governments, aimed to strengthen social cohesion and revitalize neighborhoods with special development needs.

Launched in 2007 and ending with a concept study in 2023, the project combined urban planning and social projects to achieve its goals. The community center stands as a lasting symbol of the project's success, serving as a structural anchor for the district's long-term sustainability. The neighborhood management office acted as a vital on-site contact point, connecting residents with the city administration.

Key investment projects included the redesign of the open space at Berliner Ring and the renovation of the schoolyard at Gerhart-Hauptmann-Schule. Residents witnessed tangible improvements in public spaces, with upgraded playgrounds, new seating areas, and enhanced traffic zones. Throughout the implementation period, eligible expenditures totaled €2,816,462.41, with 55% covered by federal and state funding.

The Social Security project in Hirschsprung-Breitensee has left a lasting impact, fostering vibrant communities and strengthening social cohesion. The district's residents now enjoy improved public spaces, thanks to the successful completion of key investment projects. Although the project leaders' identities remain unknown, their efforts have undeniably transformed the neighborhood.
