Southeast Asia's Cyber Threats Surge: 301,880 Exploits Target Vietnam in 6 Months
Cybersecurity threats in Southeast Asia have escalated, with businesses facing a daily barrage of exploits. Kaspersky, a leading cybersecurity firm, reports over 301,880 exploits targeting Vietnamese organizations alone between January and June 2025. The company's managing director for Asia Pacific, Adrian Hia, urges corporations to integrate cybersecurity into their culture to minimize risks.
Kaspersky's enterprise solutions blocked these exploits, which are malicious programs designed to exploit software or operating system vulnerabilities. Unpatched vulnerabilities serve as open doors for cybercriminals. In Southeast Asia, Thailand topped the list for web threats with 2.52 million, followed by Indonesia with 1.63 million and Malaysia with 1.7 million. Indonesia recorded the highest number of exploits (524,657), closely followed by Vietnam (301,880).
To strengthen defenses, Kaspersky recommends investigating vulnerability exploits in secure virtual environments, maintaining robust patch management, deploying reliable endpoint protection, and utilizing Threat Intelligence. Globally, most exploits in Q2 2025 targeted unpatched Microsoft Office products, with three common vulnerabilities: CVE-2018-0802, CVE-2017-11882, and CVE-2017-0199.
Existing vulnerabilities in Vietnamese businesses' corporate networks leave many exposed to cyberattacks. To mitigate these threats, Kaspersky advises businesses to adopt a proactive approach, integrating cybersecurity into their corporate culture, and staying updated with the latest security measures and patches.
