Solingen's Postbank branch closes temporarily due to staff shortages and COVID-19

The Postbank branch on Birkerstraße in Solingen's city centre has shut its doors since last Friday. Severe staff shortages, including a confirmed case of COVID-19, forced the temporary closure. Customers have been notified through signs at the branch and updates on the online locator tool.

The closure stems from widespread illness among employees, leaving the branch understaffed. Postbank has stated it cannot fill the gaps due to regional shortages. Safety rules, such as the four-eyes principle for cash and package handling, also require adequate personnel, making operations impossible for now.

Despite the shutdown, the self-service area—including the ATM and service terminal—remains open. For additional banking needs, a Deutsche Post partner location at Postshop am Central (Schlagbaumer Straße 142) offers basic services. Postal services are still available at the Post-Tabak-Lotto outlet inside REWE and at the Beethovenstraße post office. The nearest full-service Postbank branch with self-service options is at Alleestraße 6 in Remscheid. Postbank plans to reopen the Solingen branch on Monday, August 1, provided staff recover sufficiently.

Customers affected by the closure can still access essential services through nearby outlets and self-service machines. The branch's reopening depends on staff health improvements, with a target date set for early August. Until then, alternative locations will continue to serve the community's banking and postal needs.
