The man's predicament was discovered by neighbours who heard scraping and screeching noises coming from the stuck vehicle. They alerted the police, who then called for assistance from the Feuerwehr. Firefighters arrived to find the Smart car firmly lodged in the narrow gap. They had to resort to an unconventional rescue method, extricating the man through the side window of his car.
