Six Trees Sabotaged in Heinebach as Police Hunt Vandals
Six trees in Heinebach, Alheim, were deliberately damaged between late April and mid-November this year. The vandalism involved deep, ring-shaped cuts in the trunks—a method known as 'girdling'. Authorities have now launched an investigation into the incident as an act of property damage.
The damaged trees line Sandweg, a stretch between Zum Bielstein street and Jahnstraße. Sometime between April 30 and November 18, unknown perpetrators carved the harmful cuts into the bark. This type of damage severs the trees’ nutrient supply, meaning they will likely die over the next few years.
The municipality of Alheim has responded by filing a criminal complaint. Police in Rotenburg an der Fulda are handling the case but have not yet identified any suspects. No names or details about the vandal(s) have been released to the public. Officials are now asking for help from the community. Anyone with information has been urged to contact the Rotenburg an der Fulda police station or their nearest local police department.
The investigation remains ongoing, with no arrests or confirmed leads so far. The long-term impact of the vandalism will see the affected trees gradually decline and perish. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity related to the case.
