Sidewalk brawl in Wiesbaden ends with cyclist brandishing repellent pistol

A dispute over sidewalk use in Wiesbaden turned violent on Sunday afternoon. Four people clashed in Moritzstraße after a cyclist and two pedestrians began arguing. The situation quickly escalated when a third man joined the confrontation.

The trouble started when a cyclist and two pedestrians disagreed over who had the right to use the pavement. As the argument grew heated, a third man stepped in, leading to a physical fight with the cyclist.

During the scuffle, the cyclist pulled out a pistol designed to spray animal repellent. Though the weapon stayed holstered, police arrived and arrested the suspect on the spot. Officers confiscated the repellent pistol as part of their investigation.

The case has now been handed over to Wiesbaden's criminal investigation division. Authorities have reminded the public that while animal repellent weapons are legal to carry in Hessen, their use is strictly limited to self-defence. Misuse can result in charges such as assault or violations of weapons laws, as seen in previous incidents documented by police in 2024 and 2025.

Witnesses to the altercation are urged to come forward. Anyone with information can contact Wiesbaden police at +49 611 345-0.

The cyclist remains in custody while investigators examine the circumstances of the confrontation. Police continue to gather evidence, including witness statements, to determine whether charges will be filed. The incident highlights the legal risks of misusing self-defence weapons in public disputes.
