Serious Campsite Explosion Injures Three, Rescue Operation Involves Helicopters
A serious incident occurred at a campsite in Labbeck on April 12, 2025, resulting in three people sustaining severe injuries. The rescue operation involved multiple ambulances, emergency doctor vehicles, and two night-capable intensive transport helicopters (ITH).
The incident was initially reported as an explosion, prompting a swift response from the rescue service. The Labbeck unit, led by Dr. Markus Hoffmann, the chief emergency physician, arrived on the scene with around 16 personnel. They quickly illuminated a landing area for two rescue helicopters, which were deployed to transport the injured to suitable specialist clinics in the Ruhr area and another specialist hospital.
The rescue operation lasted until approximately 23:45, with the injured persons receiving immediate medical attention. The cause and circumstances of the accident are currently under investigation by the police.
