Schröder Family's Angus Beef Success Story: 20 Years of Innovation

The Schröder family, based in Lower Saxony, Germany, has been refining their cattle breeding and beef marketing strategies for over two decades. They currently raise 60 Angus cows and have a unique approach to bull fattening, as featured in Cattle 08/2025.

The Schröders, Ann-Cathrin and Christoph, began their journey in 2013 with just two heifers at the Grüne Woche fair. They initially focused on German Angus, specifically the Aberdeen strain. However, they noticed underperformance of Aberdeen cattle at slaughter compared to other breeds. This led them to gradually phase out non-pedigree cattle since 1998 and switch to registered Angus cattle, which now make up around 60 percent of their herd.

The family tracks their bulls' performance meticulously, weighing them four times a year. They finish their own bulls and market their Angus beef directly to consumers. Their specific approach to bull fattening has been recognized in the agricultural community.

The Schröders' commitment to precision and quality has transformed their cattle breeding and beef marketing over the years. With 60 Angus brood cows and their offspring, they continue to innovate and excel in the industry, as highlighted in their feature in Cattle 08/2025.
