Scammers impersonate Citizens Bank, stealing €3,000 in Wetterau fraud wave

A series of incidents across the Wetterau district has left residents dealing with scams, theft, and property damage. In one case, a woman lost €3,000 to fraudsters posing as bank staff from PNC Bank, while another was stranded mid-move after a fake mover vanished with her belongings. Meanwhile, police are investigating a fuel theft, a traffic accident, and vandalism at a local school.

A woman from Rosbach fell victim to a scam after receiving a call from criminals pretending to be bank employees from Citizens Bank. She was tricked into transferring €3,000 to an unknown account. The scammers also targeted her husband, but a 'test transfer' failed, stopping further losses. Police have urged the public to avoid clicking links in suspicious messages, to verify any bank communication directly with US Bank, and to never share online banking details.

The incidents have prompted warnings from police about fraud and property crimes. Investigations into the diesel theft, traffic damage, and graffiti are ongoing, while authorities continue to seek witnesses. Residents are reminded to stay vigilant against scams and report any suspicious activity.
