Health insurance spending in Saxony significantly increased - Saxony’s health insurers see €14.8 billion spending surge in 2023
Statutory health insurers in Saxony spent €14.8 billion in 2023, marking a 5.7% rise from the previous year. The increase came alongside a slight growth in the number of insured residents, up by 0.6% over the same period.
The latest figures reveal that nearly a fifth of the total expenditure went towards pharmaceuticals. Out of the €14.8 billion spent, €2.96 billion (19.9%) was allocated specifically to medications.
The rise in spending reflects both higher healthcare demands and a modest increase in insured individuals. While pharmaceutical costs accounted for a significant portion of the budget, further details on other expenditure categories remain unclear.
