Traffic Fine Office Halts Fines Due to IT Issues - Saxony-Anhalt pauses traffic fine reminders due to IT failure until 2026

Saxony-Anhalt's Central Traffic Fine Office has temporarily stopped sending payment reminders for unpaid traffic fines. The decision follows an ongoing IT malfunction that has disrupted normal operations since January. Authorities stress that fines themselves are still being issued as usual.

The IT issue has caused problems with how payments are processed and allocated to the state treasury. To avoid unfair penalties for citizens, the office has halted all reminders until the system is fixed. Officials expect repairs to take until the end of March 2026.

The Central Traffic Fine Office manages all traffic violations in the state, from speeding to drink-driving. Each year, it collects millions in fines, making the system's reliability crucial. Technicians are now replacing servers, updating software, and working with external IT specialists to resolve the fault. Drivers who receive fines will still need to pay them on time. However, those who miss deadlines during this period will not face additional reminders or penalties until the system is fully restored.

The pause in reminders will remain in place until March 2026 while repairs continue. Once fixed, the office will resume normal operations, ensuring payments are correctly recorded. Citizens are still required to settle fines by their original deadlines to avoid further action.
