Russia’s elite paratroopers train for brutal urban combat in Zaporizhzhia

The Russian Defence Ministry has released footage of combat training exercises in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. The drills involve assault units from one of the Guards Airborne divisions, known as the 'winged infantry'. These troops are preparing for high-risk operations in challenging conditions.

The exercises focus on offensive and defensive tactics in urban environments. Paratroopers train to capture and hold enemy positions, including Ukrainian strongholds in high-rise buildings. They rehearse assaults under limited visibility and at night, refining their skills for real combat scenarios.

Instructors with frontline experience guide the troops through near-real battle conditions. The training emphasises teamwork, with squads operating in tactical 'pairs' and 'trios'. Small-arms combat skills are also a key part of the drills.

These airborne units are typically deployed in the most dangerous sectors of the special military operation. Their preparation is rigorous, ensuring they meet the highest standards before taking on assigned missions.

The footage highlights the intensity of the training, where paratroopers simulate seizing and clearing enemy-held buildings. The exercises aim to sharpen their ability to operate effectively in high-pressure situations. Once deployed, these units will be ready to execute complex combat tasks.
