Russian bailiffs evict woman over unpaid bills, seize luxury car from wedding
Bailiffs in Nizhny Novgorod have carried out a series of strict enforcement actions over unpaid debts. One woman lost her municipal flat after failing to pay utility bills and leaving it overrun with stray cats. Meanwhile, authorities also seized a luxury car from a wedding party and restricted a resident’s travel over outstanding financial obligations.
The eviction took place after the woman repeatedly ignored demands to settle her utility debts. She had not lived in the apartment for some time, but the property was found in poor condition, filled with stray cats. Following the eviction, the animals were transferred to a specialist organisation for care, while the flat was handed over to the claimant. The woman was later offered a smaller social rental unit as an alternative.
In a separate case, bailiffs confiscated a Mercedes from a wedding procession due to unpaid taxes totalling over 70,000 rubles. The vehicle was seized on the spot, disrupting the event. Another resident faced travel restrictions and had their bank account frozen after failing to repay a debt nearing 1 million rubles.
The enforcement measures highlight the growing pressure on debtors in the region. The evicted woman now occupies a smaller social housing unit, while the seized Mercedes remains in bailiff custody. Authorities continue to use asset confiscation and financial restrictions to recover outstanding sums.
