Rüsselsheim's Major Road Project Begins Oct 7, Improving Traffic Flow
Rüsselsheim's traffic will undergo changes as a major road construction project begins on October 7. The project involves the construction of a temporary roundabout at the intersection of 'Kurt-Schumacher-Ring/Eisenstraße' to reroute heavy traffic. The total cost is approximately 3.4 million euros, with the state of Hesse covering the majority and the city of Rüsselsheim contributing around 300,000 euros.
The initial phase of the project will focus on the western half of the intersection in the direction of Königstädten. During this time, the Königstädten interchange will only be accessible as an off-ramp, not as an on-ramp to the A 60 motorway. To maintain traffic flow, a median crossover of approximately 120 meters will be constructed.
The western bus stop at 'Bensheimer Straße' will be upgraded to be barrier-free as part of the project. Cyclists will need to follow a detour as the street-side cycle paths will be fully closed. The exit from Eisenstraße to Kurt-Schumacher-Ring will also be temporarily unavailable during the construction period.
The state road L 3040 will be widened to four lanes, with two lanes in each direction separated by a median. Work will be carried out with the closure of one lane in each direction.
The road construction project in Rüsselsheim is expected to improve traffic flow and accessibility. The temporary roundabout and road widening are set to benefit both motorists and public transport users. The project is funded primarily by the state of Hesse, with the city of Rüsselsheim contributing a significant portion. Completion of the first phase is anticipated with the construction of the median crossover and the upgrade of the bus stop.
