Rüsselsheim’s Industrial Park Gets a Green Makeover Through Local Collaboration
The city of Rüsselsheim am Main has launched a 'future workshop' to transform the Hasengrund industrial park into a more sustainable and employee-friendly space. The initiative, backed by local businesses and academic experts, aims to tackle long-standing issues like poor public transport, lack of green areas, and over-sealed surfaces.
The workshop was hosted by Autohaus Karl + Co., a local dealership that has already started implementing green space ideas inspired by student proposals. Three former master’s students from Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences presented detailed concepts for the park’s future. Their plans included boosting biodiversity, introducing climate-resilient designs, and improving water-sensitive infrastructure.
The Hasengrund industrial park now enters a phased transformation, with clear goals for greener, more functional spaces. City leaders and businesses have committed to working with stakeholders on gradual improvements. The first visible changes—such as tree planting and repurposed infrastructure—are expected to take shape in the near future.
