Rüsselsheim's Eselswiese district to pioneer sustainable urban living for 3,500 residents

A new mixed-use district, la Eselswiese, is set to take shape in Rüsselsheim-Bauschheim, designed to house up to 3,500 residents alongside shops, restaurants, and businesses. The project focuses on sustainability, with high standards for energy supply and mobility at its core. The site benefits from strong transport links and is surrounded by green spaces. Early studies have already explored key areas like archaeology and traffic infrastructure to guide development. The city council of Rüsselsheim am Main has received a recommendation to move forward with public consultation on the draft zoning plan. This follows months of collaboration between the city and planning offices, who incorporated feedback from residents and stakeholders during an early participation phase. The draft zoning plan itself was prepared by Groß-Zimmern, an urban planning firm. Meanwhile, Frankfurt-based ProjektStadt, part of the Nassauische Heimstätte Group, is overseeing the site's development. A public consultation period is now open, giving residents and interested parties the chance to review and comment on the proposals. Earlier input from authorities, neighbouring municipalities, and local residents helped shape the master plan for the area. The Eselswiese district aims to become a model for sustainable urban living, blending housing, commerce, and green infrastructure. With public feedback still being gathered, the final zoning plan will reflect both expert analysis and community priorities. The project marks a significant step in Rüsselsheim's long-term growth strategy.
