Rüsselsheim’s 60-Hectare Eselswiese Project Redefines Sustainable Urban Living

The project began with an urban design competition in 2020, won by Berlin-based firm Studio Wessendorf. Their master plan tackles key challenges, from converting farmland into a mixed-use district to balancing nature conservation, climate goals, and transport needs.

The Eselswiese project will reshape Rüsselsheim’s landscape by blending housing, commerce, and green infrastructure. If approved, detailed planning will move forward, setting the stage for a low-carbon, walkable district. The design aims to balance growth with environmental protection and climate resilience.
