Ruesselsheim: Ideal Location for Hydrogen Economy, Study Finds
Ruesselsheim on the Main has emerged as an ideal location for the hydrogen economy, according to a recent study. The city boasts suitable sites for electrolyzer capacity and strong support from local authorities. The study also highlights the significant hydrogen demand expected in the region by 2045.
The study recommends initiating the hydrogen project with an electrolyzer capacity of 5 to 20 MW. Three promising sites have been identified: 'Mainzer Street North', 'Industrial Park West', and 'Mainzer Street South'. These locations were chosen for their size, zoning, and existing infrastructure.
The city welcomes these findings, seeing them as a positive starting point for developing the hydrogen economy. Opel and Stellantis Germany have shown interest in the site for producing H2 storage components, further boosting the city's prospects. The study predicts a total hydrogen demand of around 30.2 TWh in 2045, with the industrial sector being the largest consumer. By then, over 360,000 tons of hydrogen per year are expected to be demanded in the region.
Ruesselsheim aims to become a leading hydrogen location in the Rhine-Main region. To achieve this, the city plans to establish a hydrogen competence center and explore the possibility of hosting a hydrogen refueling station for heavy-duty traffic. The study's recommendations provide a clear roadmap for Ruesselsheim's entry into the hydrogen economy.
