Rödgener Straße in Gießen to Close for Over a Year Starting March 2026
A major section of Rödgener Straße in Gießen will close for over a year starting Monday, March 23, 2026. The shutdown, between Monroestraße and the Sophie-Scholl-Schule access road, will disrupt traffic and bus services until at least autumn 2027. Drivers and commuters are being advised to plan ahead for delays and route changes.
The closure begins on March 23, 2026, as part of extensive renovation work. No vehicles will be allowed through the affected stretch, forcing buses and cars onto alternative routes.
Bus routes 1 and 17 will face significant adjustments. Route 17 will extend to Bürgerhaus in Rödgen but end at Berliner Platz on its return trips. Route 1 will split its service, with some buses stopping at Lufthansastraße and others continuing to Bürgerhaus. All diverted buses will follow a temporary path via Rudolf-Diesel-Straße, Zeppelinstraße, Stolzenmorgen, and Lufthansastraße. Several regular stops along Rödgener Straße will remain out of service during construction. Temporary replacement stops have been set up along the diversion route to help passengers. The project is expected to last until spring 2027, though the full closure may extend into autumn. For real-time updates, commuters can call 0641 708-1400, check www.stadtwerke-giessen.de/verkehrshinweise, or visit the RMV Mobility Center in Gießen.
The roadworks will bring long-term changes to Rödgener Straße, with buses rerouted and stops relocated. Residents and travellers should monitor official updates for the latest timetables and detour information. The closure will remain in place until at least the end of 2027.
