Robot vacuum triggers false burglary alarm in Dörnigheim apartment
Police in Dörnigheim responded to a suspected burglary after a witness reported strange lights in an apartment. The unusual activity turned out to be nothing more than a robot vacuum cleaner doing its job.
The incident began when a passerby noticed a moving light through a window in a darkened flat. Concerned, they called the police, describing it as suspicious activity. Officers arrived quickly and, with no response from inside, used a key to enter the property.
Once inside, they discovered the source of the commotion: a robot vacuum cleaner moving around the room. Its bright LED sensor had been mistaken for an intruderâs torch. No signs of a break-in or disturbance were found. The manufacturer of the vacuum has not been named in any public reports as of December 2025.
The call ended with no further action needed. Police confirmed the apartment was secure and that the robot vacuum had simply been cleaning as programmed. Authorities reminded residents to be cautious but also to consider automated devices before reporting unusual activity.
