Rivers Casino Gives 500 Thanksgiving Meals to Struggling Families Amid Rising Costs
Rivers Casino Portsmouth provided 500 Thanksgiving meals to struggling families and federal workers last week. The effort came as rising food costs made holiday celebrations harder for many. A traditional meal for 10 now costs around £65 for store brands and £80 for national brands, according to recent financial reports.
The Thanksgiving Vibes Turkey Giveaway partnered with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore. Rivers Casino covered the £6,000 cost for 500 complete meals, each including a frozen turkey and classic southern sides. Families received stuffing, canned peas, macaroni and cheese, and cornbread mix.
The combined donations will help hundreds of local families celebrate Thanksgiving despite economic pressures. With food costs rising and shutdowns still affecting budgets, organisers say the support comes at a critical time. The casino and food bank plan to assess further needs as winter approaches.
