Two rare defective €500 notes have surfaced in Hrodna

The notes were first flagged when a local bank detected irregularities during routine checks. Forensic experts confirmed they were genuine but misprinted, missing critical elements like the kinogram and UV fluorescence. Part of the security thread was also absent, making them stand out from legitimate currency.

The discovery of the misprinted €500 notes has exposed a cross-border counterfeiting operation. Belarussian and German officials continue to collaborate on tracking down those involved. The case highlights the ongoing challenges in detecting sophisticated currency fraud.
