Rabenauer Straße in Gießen to Close for Major Utility and Road Upgrades in 2026

Major construction work will begin on Rabenauer Straße in Gießen's Wieseck district on April 1, 2026. The project includes upgrades to the district heating network, sewer lines, and road surfaces. Bus Route 5 will be diverted, and parking restrictions will apply during the first phase of the works. The first phase of the project will start between house number 24 and Alten-Busecker Straße. During this time, Rabenauer Straße will be fully closed to traffic, and parts of the sidewalk will also be inaccessible. Residents will still be able to reach their properties by car, though parking in the area will be suspended.

The city plans to renovate the main sewer lines and lateral connections, as well as resurface the road and sidewalks. Alongside the district heating expansion, upgrades will be made to electricity, natural gas, and drinking water infrastructure. The entire project, stretching from Albert-Osswald-Platz to Badener Hohl, is set to finish in the 50th calendar week of 2026. Bus Route 5 will follow a temporary diversion along Gießener Straße, with new stops set up for passengers. The construction will bring long-term improvements to utilities and road conditions in the Wieseck district. Temporary disruptions, including bus diversions and parking suspensions, will remain in place until the project's completion. Residents and commuters are advised to stay informed through official updates from Gießen Public Utilities.
