Quick-thinking witness foils late-night fuel theft in Offenbach

An attempted fuel theft in Offenbach was stopped early on Monday morning thanks to a vigilant witness. The incident took place near Mainzer Ring just before 1 a.m., when two men were spotted tampering with a parked truck. Police later detained the suspects and launched an investigation.

The alarm was raised by a woman who noticed the two men acting suspiciously around a lorry at around 12:50 a.m. Officers arrived quickly and found evidence that the pair had been siphoning diesel from the vehicle. A hose and gloves, likely used in the attempt, were seized at the scene.

The suspects, aged 23 and 28, were taken into temporary custody. Both were later released on bail while criminal police continue their inquiries. Investigators believe the men planned to transfer the stolen fuel into their own car. This appears to be an isolated case. Records show only one other attempted fuel theft in Offenbach in the past year, with no similar incidents reported in nearby cities during that time.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Witnesses can contact officers on 069 8098-1234. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities examine the evidence collected at the scene.
