Professor Dr. Gerhard Stanke celebrates 80 years of devotion to the church
Today, Professor Dr. Gerhard Stanke turns 80. A long-serving figure in the Diocese of Fulda, he has dedicated his life to the church, shaping its development over decades.
Born in Throem, Upper Silesia, on November 4, 1945, Stanke was ordained a priest in Fulda Cathedral in 1971. He served as the rector of the diocesan seminary from 1980 to 2002, guiding future priests. Concurrently, from 1991 to 2004, he was a full professor of moral theology at the Faculty of Theology in Fulda.
His influence extended beyond academia. From 2008 to 2019, he served as vicar general of the diocese, helping to steer its course. His impact was so profound that he was awarded the title of honorary cathedral chapter member in Timișoara in 2004. Even after retiring from his leadership roles, Stanke continues to serve as a dedicated pastor.
To celebrate his 80th birthday, a solemn service of thanksgiving will be held today at Fulda’s Stadtpfarrkirche at 11:30 a.m. Professor Dr. Gerhard Stanke's contributions to the Diocese of Fulda are immeasurable, and his legacy continues to inspire and guide the church.
