Hesse’s Christmas markets concluded without major security incidents this year. Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) highlighted the peaceful atmosphere and credited strong precautions for the smooth season. He also acknowledged the efforts of police, emergency services, and visitors in keeping the events safe.

Between 20 November and 22 December, authorities carried out around 1,140 checks at the markets. These led to 34 arrests and roughly 206 expulsions. Police recorded 160 criminal complaints and three regulatory offences during the period.

Among the reported crimes, 23 involved assaults, while 54 were pickpocketing cases. Despite these incidents, Poseck described the overall situation as calm and well-managed. The minister warned against both underestimating and overreacting to security risks. He also expressed confidence that Hesse’s approach would work for upcoming large gatherings, including Carnival parades.

The Christmas market season in Hesse ended with a focus on safety and vigilance. Police and officials will now apply the same measures to future events. The success of this year’s precautions sets a standard for handling crowds in the coming months.
