Christmas markets in Hesse ran smoothly this year, with no serious disruptions reported. Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) highlighted the success of security measures put in place during the festive season.

Between 20 November and 22 December, authorities carried out around 1,140 checks at the markets. These led to 34 arrests and roughly 206 expulsions. Police also filed 160 criminal complaints, three regulatory offences, and recorded 23 assaults and 54 pickpocketing cases.

Poseck thanked officers, emergency responders, and private security teams for their work. He also praised visitors for their peaceful and cheerful behaviour throughout the season.

The minister acknowledged the ongoing security challenges but urged against panic. He described the precautions—backed by a €1.5 million emergency programme—as effective in maintaining safety.

The festive period concluded without major incidents, demonstrating the impact of heightened security efforts. Poseck’s comments focused on the current measures rather than future events like carnival parades.
