Police fire weapon after driver flees chaotic traffic stop in Germany

Police in Steinau an der Straße are asking for public help after an officer fired a weapon during a traffic stop last Thursday evening. The incident began when officers attempted to check a dark-coloured vehicle, leading to a chase and the discovery of an abandoned car with bullet damage.

The event unfolded when officers first pulled over a dark-coloured vehicle for a routine check. Shortly after, they noticed a second car driving erratically and signalled for it to stop. The driver reportedly ignored commands and instead sped towards an officer, who then discharged their firearm.

Abandoned in a nearby field, the second vehicle was later found with bullet marks matching the incident. Authorities have confirmed it was the same car involved in the confrontation.

Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the firearm discharge. They have not yet released further details about the driver or possible charges.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 06181 100-123. The investigation remains active, with officers reviewing evidence from the scene. No additional updates have been provided at this stage.
