Police Crack Down on Distracted Drivers: 38 Not Wearing Seat Belts, 7 Using Phones

On Tuesday afternoon, the 3rd police station carried out a traffic check on Robert-Koch-Straße, focusing on common causes of accidents: speeding, alcohol or drug use, and distraction. Between 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM, 43 vehicles and 48 people were stopped and checked.

The operation revealed several offenses. Thirty-eight people were caught not wearing seat belts. Additionally, seven drivers were suspected of using their mobile phones while driving. Those found guilty faced a 100 euro fine and one point in Flensburg. The police also reminded drivers that traffic controls will continue to ensure safety and that offenses will be consistently punished.

Looking ahead, from October 6 to 12, 2025, South Hesse Police Headquarters will participate in the Europe-wide ROADPOL control week 'Focus on the road'. This initiative aims to combat distracted driving offenses and raise awareness about the dangers of distracted drivers.

The traffic check on Robert-Koch-Straße highlights the ongoing commitment to improving road safety. With increased controls and strict punishment of offenses, authorities aim to reduce accidents caused by speeding, alcohol or drug use, and distraction. The upcoming ROADPOL control week further emphasizes this dedication to safer roads.
