Police checkpoint uncovers fake IDs, uninsured drivers and illegal goods

Police conducted a large-scale traffic checkpoint on Tuesday, March 3, along Federal Highway 44 near Groß-Gerau's Fasanerie area. The operation ran from 5:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m., with officers inspecting 79 vehicles and 124 occupants. Several violations were uncovered during the checks.

During the operation, three drivers were caught operating vehicles without valid licences. Two others, aged 20 and 38, displayed clear signs of prior cannabis use. Officers also stopped an e-scooter rider who had failed to comply with mandatory insurance requirements.

In one vehicle, nearly 100 beverage cans lacking deposit seals were found and confiscated. Authorities suspect the cans were intended for illegal commercial sale. Additionally, a 29-year-old man from Eastern Europe was reported for suspected illegal residence and document forgery after presenting a fake ID.

Multiple traffic offences were recorded throughout the evening, though no further details on their nature were provided.

The checkpoint resulted in several reports for driving, insurance, and residency violations. Confiscated items included unmarked beverage cans and a forged identification document. No official statistics on similar operations in the region over the past year are publicly available.
