Police bust high-speed illegal street race in Mainz-Kastel overnight

Police in Mainz-Kastel shut down an illegal street race early Monday morning. The operation followed a tip-off about two Audi cars speeding dangerously along Lorenz-Schott-Straße late on Sunday night. Officers confiscated vehicles, cash, and mobile phones during the intervention.

The incident began just before midnight on Sunday, when witnesses reported two Audi cars racing at high speeds on Lorenz-Schott-Straße. Police from the West Hesse Headquarters in Wiesbaden responded quickly to the call.

Officers intercepted the vehicles shortly afterward on Peter-Sander-Straße. Three men—aged 22, 26, and 37—were found inside. All now face charges, including driving without a valid licence. During the stop, authorities seized tens of thousands of euros in cash from the group. They also confiscated both Audi cars and the men's mobile phones as part of the investigation.

The trio remains under investigation for multiple offences. Their vehicles, cash, and phones are being held as evidence. Police have warned against further illegal racing in the area.
