POL-OH: Apartment in Antrifttal-Ohmes no longer habitable after kitchen fire
A kitchen fire broke out in a residential building in Antrifttal-Ohmes on Monday, December 22, 2025. Witnesses noticed smoke around 3:45 p.m. and immediately called emergency services. The blaze left one apartment severely damaged and temporarily uninhabitable.
The fire started when a resident left a pan of butter unattended on a lit stovetop. The overheated butter ignited the range hood and nearby furnishings. Flames spread quickly, filling the first-floor flat with smoke.
Fire crews arrived swiftly, with 66 firefighters working to bring the blaze under control. One female resident suffered mild smoke inhalation but did not need hospital treatment. She remained at the scene for medical checks. The incident caused an estimated €60,000 in damage. The affected apartment is now uninhabitable, displacing its occupants.
Authorities confirmed the cause as accidental, linked to unattended cooking. The displaced residents will need alternative accommodation while repairs take place. No further injuries were reported.
