POL-OF: Witnesses sought after double break-in; Fire caused by sparklers

Two separate incidents in the Main-Kinzig district have prompted police investigations. In Nidderau/Heldenbergen, two houses were burgled on Saturday afternoon, while in Maintal, a porch fire broke out due to mishandled sparklers. Authorities are now appealing for witnesses in both cases.

The first incident occurred on Stifterstraße in Nidderau/Heldenbergen between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Saturday. Two neighbouring houses were targeted: in one, burglars pried open the patio door, while in the other, they forced a window near the terrace after lifting and wedging the roller shutter with a stick. Both properties were searched, causing around €700 in damage, though it remains unclear if anything was stolen. Hanau Criminal Police (Kripo) are leading the investigation and have asked anyone with information to come forward. No suspects have been identified yet, and no traces left at the scene have been linked to specific individuals.

Meanwhile, in Maintal, a porch fire on Otto-Hahn-Straße was reported after a 16-year-old boy and his 9-year-old sister allegedly handled sparklers unsafely. At least one sparkler landed on a plastic roof, igniting it immediately. A 45-year-old neighbour rushed to extinguish the flames, inhaling smoke in the process. Though treated for possible smoke inhalation, they prevented the fire from spreading further. The estimated property damage from the blaze stands at €3,000. Criminal police are also examining whether negligence in supervision played a role in the fire. Both Kripo and the Police Press Office can be reached at +49 6181 100 123 for tips or details related to either incident.

Investigations into the burglary and the fire are ongoing. Police have urged residents with any relevant information to contact them. The incidents have resulted in property damage and raised concerns about safety and supervision in the area.
