POL-OF: Who unscrewed the license plates?; Fraudsters stole cash card and cash; Drove against property wall and fled

A retired woman from Biebergemünd fell victim to a sophisticated bank fraud this week. Scammers posing as bank staff convinced her to hand over her card, which was then used to steal money. Meanwhile, police in Hanau are investigating stolen licence plates linked to the crime, and a separate hit-and-run incident caused damage in Wächtersbach.

The fraud took place on Tuesday when the woman received a call from people claiming to be her bank. They persuaded her to surrender her card to an accomplice, who collected it from her home on Hauptstraße in Biebergemünd. The thief later withdrew several hundred euros from an ATM in Bieber.

The suspects used a black Volkswagen Golf with stolen licence plates. The plates were taken from a car parked on Reichenberger Straße in Hanau between 9:30 PM on Tuesday and 7:05 AM on Thursday. Police have asked anyone with information to contact them on 06181 100-120. In a separate incident, a hit-and-run driver damaged a property wall on Alsfelder Straße in Wächtersbach. The collision happened between 9 PM on Monday and 7:35 AM on Tuesday, leaving around €1,000 in repairs. The driver fled without reporting the crash.

The fraud victim in Biebergemünd is now working with authorities to recover her funds. Hanau police continue their search for witnesses regarding the stolen plates. Meanwhile, the hit-and-run in Wächtersbach remains under investigation, with no arrests made so far.
