Pickpocket targets elderly shopper in Darmstadt daylight theft

A 72-year-old woman fell victim to a pickpocket in Darmstadt last Thursday. The theft took place in broad daylight while she was shopping on Am Dornbusch street. Police have since issued safety advice to prevent similar incidents.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. on March 26. The suspect jostled the victim before taking cash from her shoulder bag. The thief then fled in an unknown direction and remains unidentified.

Police are urging witnesses to come forward and contact Precinct 21/22 in Darmstadt. They have also shared tips to help the public avoid becoming targets. Residents are advised to carry wallets, money, and important documents in secure inner pockets. Handbags and shoulder bags should be kept zipped, positioned in front of the body, and tucked firmly under the arm. Wallets should never be left in the top of shopping bags, baskets, or carts.

The suspect has not yet been caught, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police continue to encourage vigilance, particularly in busy shopping areas. Anyone with information is asked to assist officers with their enquiries.
