Philippsthal and Vacha unite to honor the 36th anniversary of the Berlin Wall’s fall

On Sunday evening, the municipalities of Philippsthal and Vacha commemorated the 36th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The event, held in the courtyard of Philippsthal Castle, drew numerous attendees, including representatives from politics, schools, and local associations. The pastors of both communities addressed the guests, stressing the importance of peace and freedom.

The ceremony featured speeches from prominent figures. Hesse’s Minister of the Interior, Prof. Dr. Roman Poseck, and Parliamentary State Secretary Christian Hirte shared their thoughts. Hirte, who also participated as a politician in a similar event in autumn 2021, spoke alongside Philippsthal’s mayor, Timo Heusner, and Vacha’s mayor, Martin Müller. Both mayors reflected on the night of November 12, 1989, when the border between their towns opened.

Many attendees shared personal memories and experiences from the time of the Wall's fall. Heusner emphasized the emotional impact of experiencing freedom firsthand. Müller reminded the audience that the fall of the Wall serves as both a warning and a responsibility. The event also included musical performances by students from Vacha Gymnasium and the Hattorf Miners’ Band.
