Philippine authorities crack down on fake Digital National ID scams

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has warned the public against fake claims about the Digital National ID. Misleading social media posts suggest the digital version can be printed on plastic cards—but officials confirm this is false. Only the official eGovPH app provides valid access to the Digital National ID.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) recently directed banks and financial institutions to accept all forms of the National ID as valid proof of identity. This includes the physical card, the paper version, and the Digital National ID accessed through the eGovPH mobile app.

Unauthorised printing or reproduction of the National ID—especially on PVC or plastic cards—is strictly prohibited. The PSA remains the sole authority for printing and issuing official National IDs. Violations carry severe penalties, including imprisonment of three to six years and fines ranging from ₱1 million to ₱3 million. Residents are urged to report any individuals or businesses offering unauthorised services related to the Digital National ID. For questions or concerns, the public can contact the PSA Davao de Oro office at (084) 817-0347 or via email at [email protected].

The Digital National ID is legally recognised but must only be accessed through the official eGovPH app. Any printed versions on plastic or PVC are invalid and illegal. Authorities continue to enforce strict measures against fraudulent activities involving the National ID system.
