Peine’s vacant spaces bloom into creative hubs through interim projects

Peine's city center is undergoing a vibrant transformation, with vacant retail spaces being repurposed into thriving hubs for art, culture, and social interaction. This initiative, driven by interim uses, is fostering a creative and innovative atmosphere in the heart of the city.

The Stadtimpuls network is at the forefront of this change, bringing together representatives from diverse sectors to collaborate and develop new projects. Kathrin Bolte, the city's Project Manager for City Center Management, is the key contact for inquiries about interim uses, reporting vacancies, or expressing interest. She can be reached at 05171/545566 or via email at [email protected].

Property owners can now make their vacant buildings more visible and explore new uses through the digital platform LeAn®. The city's economic development team and Peine Marketing are actively supporting this process. The next phase will focus on engaging property owners in dialogue and proactively reaching out to businesses looking to expand.

Young people have already taken the initiative, turning an empty space into an open studio as part of a project led by the Servicestelle Kultur and junge VHS. The Soziale Kaufhaus Peine also temporarily opened a branch in the City Galerie during the Food Truck Festival, serving social and nonprofit purposes. Meanwhile, artists from the association KiP – Kunst im Peiner Land showcased their works in a vacant storefront at the City Galerie Peine.

The interim use initiative in Peine's city center is not only revitalizing vacant spaces but also fostering a sense of community and creativity. With Kathrin Bolte at the helm, property owners and potential tenants can easily engage in this process, ensuring a vibrant and dynamic future for the city's heart.
