Opel's Vivaro-e Crowned International Van of the Year 2021
Opel's all-electric compact van, the Vivaro-e, has been crowned the International Van of the Year 2021. The award was presented by Johannes Reichel, managing director at ISO Recruiting Consultants GmbH, in a local ceremony held in Rüsselsheim due to pandemic restrictions.
The jury praised the Vivaro-e for its impressive performance, flexible technical package, and competitive pricing. This electric van offers up to 6.6 cubic meters of cargo space and can carry a payload of 1,200 kilograms. Two battery sizes provide ranges of up to 330 kilometers, ensuring it meets the needs of various businesses.
Available in three lengths and multiple body styles, the Vivaro-e caters to different types of fleets. It provides the same spacious capacity as its combustion engine counterpart, but with zero emissions. Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller accepted the award, maintaining a safe distance of 'vehicle’s width'.
The award is a significant milestone for Opel, which plans to offer all-electric versions of its light commercial vehicles by the end of the year. Rüsselsheim has emerged as a hub for electrification expertise, positioning Opel strongly in the transition to electric vehicles. The Opel Combo Cargo city van and the 3.5-ton Movano-e are next in line for electric versions.
The Opel Vivaro-e's victory as the International Van of the Year 2021 underscores Opel's commitment to electrification. With its spacious cargo capacity, competitive pricing, and impressive range, the Vivaro-e sets a high standard for electric vans. As Opel continues to electrify its light commercial vehicle range, it solidifies its position as a leader in the electric vehicle market.
