Opel & Stellantis Break Ground on 'grEEn Campus' in Rüsselsheim
Opel and Stellantis Germany have embarked on a sustainable venture with the groundbreaking of the 'green campus' in Rüsselsheim. This project aligns with a broader European initiative, with similar developments in France and Italy. Florian Huettl, CEO of Opel & Vauxhall and Managing Director of Stellantis Germany, lauded the project's contribution to Germany's sustainable development.
The 'green campus' spans approximately 100,000 square meters, with VGP spearheading its development. It will house an administration building and a research and development center, both aiming for DGNB Gold certification, a prestigious sustainability accolade. The administration building, set to be the new global headquarters for Opel and Stellantis Germany, will feature modern, flexible workspaces designed to foster collaboration. The research and development building will focus on creating prototypes and cutting-edge vehicle designs.
The campus will harness renewable energy through a photovoltaic system integrated into a green roof, supplemented by a geothermal system. This focus on sustainability is echoed in the choice of building materials and construction methods, with a commitment to reducing CO2 emissions throughout the process.
The 'green campus' in Rüsselsheim, a joint venture between Opel, Stellantis, and VGP, is poised to set new standards for sustainable business practices. With its state-of-the-art facilities and commitment to renewable energy and sustainable materials, it promises to be a significant step forward in Germany's green development.
