Omsk Youth Theater’s renovation stalls amid legal battles over canceled contract
The renovation of Omsk Youth Theater has faced another legal dispute after Stroytsentr-Irkutsk LLC took the venue to court. The contractor is challenging the theatre’s decision to cancel a multi-million-ruble reconstruction agreement. Meanwhile, new firms have been brought in to finish the long-delayed project.
The Omsk Youth Theater first launched capital repairs in 2021 with an original two-year completion target. Since then, the deadline has been pushed back multiple times, most recently to summer 2026.
Stroytsentr-Irkutsk LLC filed a lawsuit after the theater terminated the contract. The company wants the court to overturn the unilateral cancellation and reject a payment demand under a bank guarantee. In response, the theater requested that third parties join the case, including the Omsk Regional Office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service, the Omsk Regional Ministry of Culture, the Omsk Regional Ministry of Finance, and the Omsk Regional Financial Control Directorate. The court approved their involvement.
With the contract voided, the theater selected Stroygarant to take over the work. Later, another firm, ART Remstroy, was also chosen to help complete the reconstruction.
The legal battle continues as Stroytsentr-Irkutsk LLC seeks to reverse the contract termination. At the same time, the theater moves forward with new contractors to finish the renovation by the extended 2026 deadline. The case will now proceed with multiple regional agencies participating in the proceedings.
