Offenbach's STADTRADELN campaign shatters records with 787 cyclists for climate action
Offenbach's latest STADTRADELN campaign saw record-breaking participation, with 787 cyclists pedalling for climate action. Over three weeks, riders logged 175,094 kilometres—enough to avoid 28 metric tons of CO₂ emissions. The event, part of a nationwide push for greener transport, also marked a sharp rise in local involvement compared to previous years. From June 2 to 22, 34 teams took part in the Climate Alliance's STADTRADELN initiative in Offenbach. The campaign, which began in 2008, encourages people to replace car trips with bicycle rides for 21 days. This year's edition attracted 153 more cyclists than in 2023, even surpassing the previous high set in 2020.
The Marienschule Offenbach fielded the largest team, with 144 riders completing 2,655 individual trips. Meanwhile, the 'SANA Klinikum Offenbach – Radeln macht fit' team covered the most distance, clocking 23,441 kilometres in total. In the School Cycling Challenge, the Rudolf-Koch-Schule led with an average of 308 kilometres per cyclist. Among individual achievements, the team 'Los Pedalos' topped the 'Most Active Cyclists' category, averaging 916 kilometres per rider. Offenbach's efforts form part of a broader movement, with over 660 German cities and municipalities now participating in STADTRADELN. Organisers have already registered 2,453 communities for the 2026 campaign. Mayor Sabine Groß thanked team captains for their dedication and expressed enthusiasm for next year's event.
The campaign's success highlights Offenbach's growing commitment to sustainable transport. With more cyclists joining each year, the city continues to reduce emissions through collective action. The next STADTRADELN event is already scheduled for 2024.
