Offenbach's Solar Power Surge: 45 Systems by 2027
Offenbach is boosting its solar power generation with a new initiative. The city plans to install 45 solar systems on its buildings by 2027, starting with four already operational on municipal utility rooftops.
The latest addition is a 422-panel system on the workshop roof. It's expected to generate around 160,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually, adding another 160,000 kWh to the city's solar power generation. This new system, along with the three others already up and running, is designed to maximize self-consumption during core working hours, powering various facilities and tools on-site.
The Stadtwerke Offenbach plans to invest €1.3 million per year in this project. By 2027, the 45 planned systems are expected to generate over 5 million kWh of electricity annually. This initiative is part of Offenbach’s municipal climate strategy to harness solar energy for clean power production. However, the city does not yet have battery storage for surplus power, which is fed into the city grid during off-peak hours.
Offenbach's solar power expansion is underway. With four systems already operational and more planned, the city aims to generate over 5 million kWh of clean electricity annually by 2027. This initiative supports Offenbach’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable energy use.
