Offenbach's historic bereavement hall nears completion with €8.8M upgrade

The renovation of Offenbach's bereavement hall at New Cemetery is moving forward as planned. Work on the historic building remains on schedule, with key improvements already in place. The project is also staying within its €8.8 million budget. Structural upgrades have reached important milestones. New refrigeration units now have completed foundations, and most of the roof has been replaced. Inside, around 80% of the rough-in work for electrical and plumbing systems is finished.

Accessibility is a major focus of the renovation. A new elevator will serve the foyer, and wheelchair-accessible restrooms are being added on the ground floor. The building will also feature a photovoltaic system on the roof to power refrigeration and lighting. The modernisation is set to wrap up between late 2026 and early 2027. After that, the hall is expected to reopen to the public in the first quarter of 2027.

The bereavement hall's upgrade includes technical, structural, and sustainability improvements. Once complete, the facility will offer better accessibility and energy efficiency. The project remains on track for a 2027 reopening.
